My fitness journey began when I joined a gym at university. Clueless at what to do by myself, I booked myself onto the classes. This was a great way of keeping me fit but I wasn't seeing any changes to my body and it became difficult to fit the class times around my schedule.
I started seeing people on Instagram following a e-book workout guide so I purchased this and began. Week 1 was great I was feeling motivated and completed all of the workouts but then I had a break from the gym as I couldn't be bothered to go. A few weeks later I started week 1 again, I must have repeated week 1 so many times before I actually stuck to it and managed to get further through the guide. This is when I realised it wasn't just a plan I needed, it was accountability and so I created an Instagram account so that I could share my journey in hopes this would help me stick to the workouts when I wasn't being pushed by a class instructor.
Shortly after this I had a horse riding accident which lead to surgery due to breaking my shoulder & arm. All my independence and freedom was taken away from me for over 4 months, I couldn't drive, I couldn't exercise, I wasn't allowed to even walk much as this would jolt my shoulder and prevent it healing. This situation made me realise how important looking after my health was and I was determined to come back from this injury fitter and stronger.
When I was allowed to return to exercise, I had to start from the bottom. I stuck with my workout plan and after a couple of months I became really slim however this was through high impact, high intensity workouts which hurt my knees. I wanted to build muscle but I didn't know where to start and the weight section of the gym seemed pretty daunting so I thought I would sign up to a Level 2 Gym Instructor course to further my knowledge, initially for my own benefit!
As I started applying my new knowledge to my own training, I saw results quicker than I ever had before. My programme felt sustainable and enjoyable for me and my lifestyle had completely changed. Health & fitness had become my passion, not a chore. I decided to continue my education to become a Level 3 Personal Trainer in 2017 so that I could help other women change their lifestyle, love their workouts, enjoy their meals & see the results they want without having to do anything extreme to get there!
